Medfield State Hospital

It’s well known that the Medfield State Hospital was the site for movies like Shutter Island and The Box. The hospital was closed in 2003 and the grounds are now open to the public, although the buildings themselves are locked down like Fort Knox. It’s a bit eerie walking around the enormous complex–all 58 buildings are shut tight and all the streets are empty, like a scene from the Walking Dead. There’s still a constant security presence, but luckily the guard on duty was very accommodating and actually gave me a brief tour of the most famous structures.
